Matriculants transported in
horse-drawn carts by the local CPF
Hard-working matriculants who
achieved exemplary marks were celebrated and paraded
in the streets in Manenberg by their local Community Policing Forum (CPF) on Saturday.
The matrics were treated like royalty and sat in horse-drawn carriages as they were carted around theircommunity
in a bid to encourage other youngsters to keep up with their schooling, and show skollies that gang violencewould not deter them from
realising their dreams.
Residents applauded the parade, which included a party bus. Later a formal presentation was held at Phoenix High School to honour the
deserving 21 matriculants from seven schools in the area.
Captain Ian Bennett of Manenberg SAPS says they are proud to be associated with a community who cares.
“This achievement not only shows and proves the amount of hope in this area, but it shows that education is the tool to overthrow gangs, bringing it down and eradicating it completely,” he said.
“Putting young people on a pedestal showcasing achievements of hard work proves that any and every young person can succeed.
“Success is not just for the rich and famous, but it is for those that work hard.”
